A few people have asked about how I do my custom patches and what it's like as a customer. Here's a bit about my process. On average it's about 8-12 weeks for a custom patch but I have been able to do some rush jobs.
- Everything formally starts when place a deposit. You can do that by going to my shop and this listing. When I have a deposit I officially put you in my queue and start the process.
- Send me the art. If you have a good jpg of the art that should work. If you have access to a vector or svg file that's even better! But, even if you just have a picture of a fabric patch, I have a guy that can create great digital art that I can use to design.
- I finalize the budget. Custom patches that are around 24" start at $350 for a simple design. The more colors, the more intricate design and the cost can go up from there. Before you order you can send me a photo of the art you have and I can give you a ballpark estimate. 90% of the time that will be correct. Sometimes I get an idea that might look really great but take a bit more time and I may ask if you want to trust me and go for it. One thing I know about myself is that when I'm excited to try a new technique is when I do my best work. I love customers that trust me to make something special even if I can't fully articulate the idea that's in my head.
- Then we wait. I'll start buying materials, creating toolpaths or designs in my software.
- I start cutting wood. Once I start cutting the wood on your piece things will start moving quickly. I try to only be working on one patch design in my shop at a time (Someday I'll have more space to do more.) Focusing on just one at a time helps me keep the details sharp.
- I'll send preview pics as it comes together. You'll get excited.
- Once I'm at about 50% through assembling it I stop sending pics. I want you to be surprised. Before I ship I ask for the final installment.
- I ship it, hopefully you love it.
- Years go by, your kids fight over who gets the patch after you die.
